Business segments
Headquartered in Hanover, BEB Erdgas und Erdöl GmbH is a 50:50 subsidiary of Shell and Esso. On behalf of its wholly owned subsidiary BEB Speicher GmbH, BEB offers its customers specialised services concerning the underground storage of natural gas.

BEB has two high-capacity pore space stores in north Germany - including the country's second largest natural gas storage facility - as well as a storage operation with two cavern stores. Overall, BEB supplies the market, safely and reliably, with some 2 billion m³ of working gas.
BEB is also marketing crude oil from its proprietary production facility, as well as sulphur recovered from the natural gas desulphurisation process.
Major changes at BEB
As of 1st of July 2008, BEB Erdgas und Erdöl GmbH has taken over the business divisions gas storage, crude oil marketing and sulfur marketing from BEB Transport und Speicher Service GmbH. With that, BEB disposes of two high performing underground pore storages in Dötlingen and Uelsen and two salt caverns near Harsefeld. Over all, BEB provides a working gas volume of about 2 bn m³ to their storage customers.
As one of the biggest sulfur producer in Europe, BEB is marketing the elementary sulfur gained by cleaning of natural gas in the desulfurization plants Großenkneten and NEAG/Voigtei. Furthermore, BEB is marketing crude oil from own production in Northern and Southern Germany.

Gasunie takes over the BEB transportation grid
The company change took place simultaneously with the takeover of the BEB transportation grid by the N.V. Nederlandse Gasunie. The 3.100 km network in Northern Germany is now to be operated by the recently founded Gasunie Deutschland Services GmbH. This company is handling as well the operating of the grid, the dispatching and the marketing of the grid access. All BEB's former transportation services are furthermore available to transportation customers under the internet sites www.gasunie.de.
